After finishing ninth at last season’s OUA Championships, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams are taking on their first challenge of the 2014 season in New York State. They kick it off at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational and later proceed to the St. Lawrence Invitational, both on Saturday, September 27.
The Gee-Gees are excited to commence the season and even got a head start as some of the athletes participated in Ottawa’s annual Army Run. Second-year athlete Alex Berhe, who completed the run this past weekend, topped his 20-25 age category posting a 16:07 finish time.
Last season, Isabelle Kanz, a fourth-year from Orleans, Ont., represented the Gee-Gees in the CIS women’s cross country championship. Kanz placed 37th at the nation-wide competition posting a time of 23:00.1 on the six kilometre course. Kanz joins the ranks of Ottawa alumnus Tiffany Locke (21st in 2007) as a top finisher at the CIS championship.
The teams will subsequently have a meet in Clinton, New York to participate in the Hamilton College Invitational on October 11. Finally, Queen’s University will be hosting the cross country OUA Championships in Kingston on October 25.
