FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Charlotte Gagnon-Lewis, women’s soccer

Charlotte Gagnon-Lewis scored the game-winning goal in her first OUA regular season game on Saturday, helping uOttawa take down Trent in a 4-1 win. The first-year International Development and Globalization student comes to uOttawa from CEGEP Rimouski, and made the team as a walk-on this training camp. Originally from Montreal, Gagnon-Lewis has shown her speed and tenacity throughout the preseason and is one of several rookies to make an impact this weekend for women’s soccer.

MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Luke Ffrench, football

Luke Ffrench was a standout among a strong defensive effort which lifted Ottawa to a 24-21 win in double-overtime against Guelph on Sunday. The Ajax, Ont. product and Criminology student made his first start on the defensive side of the ball for the Gee-Gees after spending three years at receiver and promptly recorded seven tackles, one sack for six yards, and two tackles for loss. His sack came at the end of the third quarter on a third and one play, giving Ottawa the ball at the Guelph 28-yard line when the score stood at 9-7 for the Gee-Gees.
