The uOttawa Athletes of the Week for October 24 are Mélodie Bouchard from women’s hockey and Mitchell Baines from men’s football.

Bouchard is off to a great start in 2016-17, following up on her CIS Rookie of the Year season in 2015-16. The Sept-Iles, Que. product and Social Sciences student scored two goals and added three assists in Ottawa’s 7-4 win over Carleton on Saturday. She now has seven total points through the first two games of the regular season, which ranks first in the RSEQ conference and fourth in the nation. The five-foot-four centre leads the nation in points per game, and has been selected to represent Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade, set for Jan. 29 – Feb. 8 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Baines closed out his regular season career with the Gee-Gees on a high note, catching the game-winning pass to score a two-point convert against Queen’s in overtime. The fifth-year Ottawa native had 10 catches for 113 yards in the game, and finished the regular season as the national leader in yards (984), receptions (65), and yards per game (123.0). Baines had six games this season with over 100 yards receiving and he will lead the Gee-Gees into the OUA playoffs with a quarter-final date at Carleton’s MNP Park on Saturday, October 29 at 1 p.m. Tickets are available online through the Ravens ticketing system.
