The CFL Eastern Regional Combine took place Friday in Montreal with three members of the Garnet and Grey on the field to showcase their talents for CFL scouts. Lewis Ward, Derek Wendel, and Osas Obas were part of a field of 43 prospects invited to attend.
Ward showed well in the vertical jump and 40 yard dash tests. uOttawa’s kicker ranked fourth overall with a 35-inch jump and added a 4.886 time in the 40. Ward’s three cone time of 7.37 was in the top twelve.
Obas, a defensive end, had one of the top shuttle drill times among the big men at the combine, clocking in at 4.53. Obas also tested favourably with a 9-foot, 2.5 inch broad jump and added a 7.66 time in the three cone drill.
Wendel, the lone quarterback at the combine, was just over the five second mark on his 40 yard dash at 5.011. He also scored a vertical jump of 33 inches, a broad jump of 9’4.5”, three cone time of 7.58 and a shuttle time of 4.50.
Ward and Obas are eligible for the 2017 CFL Draft, while Wendel is a free agent. Wendel, the 2016 OUA Player of the Year, also recently took part in the NFL Regional Combine at the training facility for the Minnesota Vikings.
