The uOttawa athletes of the week are Devyani Biswal and Caleb Agada from the men’s basketball team.
Devyani Biswal won the OUA bronze medal in the 60-metre hurdles to claim Ottawa’s first medal of the championship and the first of her career. Biswal, a third-year Gee-Gee, raced to a season best time of 8.66 seconds to leap ahead of four competitors who had entered the competition with a faster season best. The Ottawa native also made the 60-metre semi finals and helped the 4x200 relay team to a seventh place finish.
Caleb Agada led the Gee-Gees to a big 116-71 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs to open Ottawa’s OUA playoff run. The third-year forward had a near triple-double with 22 points and 13 boards and nine assists, along with three steals and two blocks. Agada and the Gee-Gees will now try to defend their 2014 OUA Championship by hosting the OUA Final Four tournament this weekend. Ottawa will face Windsor at 6 p.m. on Friday while Carleton and Ryerson will meet in the second semi-final at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online.
