Men’s Basketball (11-11 OUA, 1-0 playoffs)
At Toronto(14-8 OUA, 0-0 playoffs) for OUA quarter final playoff game on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
The Gee-Gees are one step farther in their OUA playoffs march, with the next battle coming in the form or OUA East No. 2 Toronto for an OUA quarter final playoff match.
The Gee-Gees ousted Laurentian 83-77 in their first round playoff game on Wednesday, February 23 with a strong performance from all five starters.
The Gee-Gees split their regular season games with Toronto, with the Varsity Blues stealing a 77-73 win at Montpetit Hall early in January while the Gee-Gees stole the most recent 94-71 win in Toronto.
“The key is not to look into the game we played two weeks ago,” said Derouin, “It’s going to be a completely different game and Toronto’s going to be a completely different team. They had already clinched second; they had nothing to play for. They rested tonight and they’re just going to be waiting for us in Toronto.”
Toronto earned a bye through the first round of playoffs, but this Saturday’s match-up has a lot on the line, as the winner will earn a place in the OUA Final Four at Windsor on March 4.
“Every time we play U of T we take over the gym with our alumni and family and friends,” noted Derouin on the team’s support in Toronto, “We hope it’ll be even double that [this] time and we’re hoping that same support will be there and it’ll feel like a home game.”
