HEADLINE: Home and Away: the Homecoming Battle
The Gee-Gees came out on top with a 90-68 win over the Alumni in Saturday’s homecoming match at Montpetit Hall. Fifth-year veteran Josh Gibson-Bascombe led uOttawa in scoring with 15 total points, helped along by his going three for three at free throw line.
Marco Jovic, from the alumni team, had a game-high of 16 points and four rebounds.
Leading the scoring in the second quarter with 21 points to the Gee-Gees 17, the Alumni narrowed the gap to just six points at half, the closest in the entire game. But the Gee-Gees came flying out of the gate at half scoring their highest quarter with 28 points.
With both teams wearing uOttawa jerseys, it was clear to all that though this game was competitive, “The objective is to have fun, ” as Gee-Gees head coach Dave DeAveiro said after the game. The game also is a chance to “give the young kids a chance to play and meet the alumni. ”
In Gibson-Bascombe’s eyes, the game “went really well this year. They (Alumni) brought it this year.”
Both teams were heading out to Father and Sons Restaurant after the game.
