The uOttawa Gee-Gees men’s basketball team was more than happy to lend a helping hand this past Monday at the Foundation to Fight Obesity in Children Golf Tournament hosted by Tony Greco of Greco Lean and Fit.
Whether it was carrying golf clubs, taking care of the valet parking, selling raffle tickets, or driving an ice cream cart, the garnet and grey had a lot of fun doing the little things in making the event a success.
“I wanted our guys to give back to the community,” explained head coach James Derouin who was also on hand for the event. “Especially during the off season it’s very important for them be conscious of (their community involvement) and to have fun with it. We had a great day here and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.”
“Active living is something we think is very important, and Tony’s passion for the issue is amazing,” explained Derouin. “I just feel as though the cause is something that really follows through with our mandate here at the University of Ottawa in promoting active living on campus and within the community.”
“Again, this is a well-worth initiative brought on by Tony and his team and so we are very much looking forward to working with them again in the future,” added Derouin.
Established in 2008, the Foundation to Fight Obesity in Children set out to promote, educate and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle for today’s youth. In addition to providing proper nutrition education for parents and children, the Foundation also spearheads various initiatives in order to subsidize sporting activities, medication, personal training and nutritionist costs for children in the community.
