In Montreal for the Redbird Classic Tournament at McGill University, played McMaster (12:00 p.m.)
McMaster 40 95
uOttawa 50 72
Josh Gibson-Bascombe, 35 points – uOttawa
Fifth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ont.) had an outstanding 35 point performance Sunday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough as the uOttawa Gee-Gees gave up their 10-point lead at the half to fall to the McMaster Marauders 95-72 in their final game at the Redbird Classic Tournament.
“Our young guys didn’t respond,” said head coach Dave DeAveiro, “They’re not used to seeing this kind of physicality.”
Up 50-40 at the end of the second quarter, the Gee-Gees would lose steam and be outscored by the Marauders 45-22 in the second half. After the game, Gibson-Bascombe and fourth-year forward LouisGauthier (Ottawa, ON) were named to the tournament’s all-star team.
“We have to be better defensively,” added DeAveiro, “We’re giving up a lot of points.”
The Gee-Gees were without star second-year guard Warren Ward (Brampton, Ont.)who was out sick with the flu.
The Gee-Gees now have a week to prepare for the Jack Donohue Tip-off Tournament from October 23-25 when they will host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, the Bishop’s University Gaiters, and the Cape Breton University Capers at Monpetit Hall.
