After a long day of travel, the uOttawa Gee-Gees fourth quarter comeback came up just short as they fell 78-72 in Thunder Bay, Ont., on Friday night.
The Gee-Gees played catch up all game, as Lakehead would counter every time the Gee-Gees attempted to take over the lead. The Thunder Wolves often led by double digits but the garnet and grey never backed down. Lakehead were on their heels for much of the fourth quarter.
Johnny Berhanemeskel (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Gee-Gees tonight with 23 points, and 6 rebounds while this week’s CIS athlete of the week, Warren Ward (Ottawa, Ont.) had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals.
Despite the loss, head coach James Derouin was satisfied with his team’s performance on the road against the No. 2 team in the country.
“We mad made a good comeback in the third, but against a good team like that you can’t dig yourself that big a of a hole and think you can win the game,” said Derouin.
“They knocked down some big shots, and we didn’t. But it was a great between the two teams. There’s some good things moving forward, and this was definitely a game we could have won,” added Derouin.
The Gee-Gees will be back on the road tomorrow as they will leave early tomorrow morning on route to Guelph for tomorrow night’s game.
