Gee-Gees men’s basketball coach James Derouin was in Toronto this past weekend to begin work as an assistant coach with Canada Basketball’s Cadet Men’s National Team. It is the Ottawa native and 2015 CIS Coach of the Year’s first appointment with the national team program.

Derouin, who has led the top offensive unit in the CIS for the past two seasons, worked with 18 prospects born in 1999 or later at Humber College over four days to select the final 12-man roster for the national team. Canada will compete at the U16 FIBA Americas in Bahia Blanca, Argentina from June 10-14.

Notably, a long-time member of uOttawa’s affiliated development club Next Level was named to the roster. Noah Kirkwood, of Kanata and Ashbury College is one of four wings who will don the red and white.
