The Gee-Gees men’s basketball team walked away from Saturday’s tilt with the Nipissing Lakers with a 79-63 victory and a 3-0 record to begin the regular season.
Fifth-year Gee-Gee Caleb Agada was all over the floor with a signature performance, tallying 23 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals to lead the Garnet and Grey during his 32 minutes on the floor.
Matt Plunkett, Adam Presutti, and Brandon Robinson also hit double-figure scoring for Ottawa as the team shot 43 per cent from the field. Plunkett and Presutti heated up from outside, sinking four and three treys, respectively.
“Nipissing defends the post well so the perimeter guys had to step up,” said Gee-Gees head coach James Derouin. “Brandon was good, he gives us that critical sixth-man role. He brought energy at both ends of the floor and definitely contributed both nights this weekend.”
Nipissing received 16 points from senior guard Jordon Campbell, and 15 inside from Justin Shaver. The Lakers committed 17 turnovers which led to 18 points for Ottawa.
The Gee-Gees held a 23-18 lead at the end of the first quarter and steadily pulled away as the night wore on. Agada was a key factor in the first quarter, netting ten points along with three rebounds and two assists. The largest lead came at 74-52 midway through the fourth.
