HEADLINE: Young Overcome Experienced
The Gee-Gees proved to be a well conditioned team Saturday evening as they picked up the tempo with just under five minutes left in the game to beat the experienced Alumni team 76-66 in the Montpetit Hall.
Third-year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley led the Gee-Gees in both points and rebounds, with 26 points and 11 rebounds. “We really picked it up in the second half,” said Sunley-Paisley.
The Gee-Gees were down by seven points at the half and almost tied things up at the end of the third until Alumni Moriah Trowell, who was also an assistant coach with the Gee-Gees last year, scored a three-point buzzer beater to give the Alumni a two point lead going into the fourth. But, this lead wouldn’t last long.
“It was really nice to play the Alumni,” said head coach Andy Sparks. “They (Alumni) showed their experience early, we showed our conditioning late.”
The Gee-Gees play another exhibition game Sunday afternoon against King’s University (Edmonton, Alta.) at 2:00 p.m. at Ashbury College.
