Women’s Basketball (14-8 OUA, 1-0 playoffs)
At Toronto for OUA East final four against Carleton (18-4 OUA, 0-0 playoffs) on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. for an OUA quarter final playoff game.
The Gee-Gees will be facing cross-town rivals Carleton for the second time in just over a week, this time for an OUA quarter final playoff match, though the garnet and grey will be looking for the same result as a week ago.
The Gee-Gees hosted the Ravens on February 18 to close their regular season and won a thrilling 72-68 overtime win, revenge for their double overtime Capital Hoops 71-63 loss to Carleton late January.
The Gee-Gees conquered York on Wednesday 67-53 in their first round playoff action, despite a weak third quarter.
“We can’t play like that this weekend,” commented head coach Andy Sparks on his team’s struggling performance against York, “We’ll go back to the drawing board. There are things we need to work on defensively [and we’ll] try to work on our execution.”
After the win over York, Sparks noted the lack of desperation in the team as they played “like a team that was trying not to lose, not trying to win.” Sparks notes that while the coaches will go back to the drawing board on certain items, it’s up to the players to regain that necessary desperation.
Carleton will be out for redemption in a twice as strong fashion this weekend, as not only did the Gee-Gees steal the No. 1 OUA East ranking from the Ravens with the final regular season win a week ago, but the Gee-Gees also stole the CIS national championships berth from Carleton last year in their 59-54 OUA East championship win.
