The Desjardins uOttawa Male Athlete of the Week is Matthieu Methot of the men's hockey team. Methot scored in each of two playoff games against the third place Nipissing Lakers, helping uOttawa sweep the series. Methot started the Gee-Gees off early, scoring just 1:45 into the first game - providing an emotional lift heightened by the fact that he was wearing a face guard due to a serious facial injury the game before and was a game-time decision to play in game one. Methot then scored the Gee-Gees' first two goals in game two, including the go-ahead marker at 8:52 of the third period. The three goals in two games give Methot five post season goals in his career, and the Gee-Gees advance to the second round of the OUA playoffs for the first time since 2007-08.
The Desjardins uOttawa Female Athlete of the Week is Hannah Sunley-Paisley of the women's basketball team. The fifth year centre finished her final regular season with the Gee-Gees in style, moving into second place in the OUA record books for career rebounds by collecting 30 boards between the two final games, including a 19 rebound night on Friday against Ryerson. Sunley-Paisley recorded a double-double in each of the games, netting points 17 against Ryerson and 23 against Toronto. The Toronto native finishes the regular season with 12 double-doubles, first in the OUA in points per game (fifth in the CIS), and fourth in the OUA in rebounds per game (sixth in CIS). Sunley-Paisley is now sixth on the OUA all-time scoring list, and the Gee-Gees head into the playoffs ranked sixth in the country after capturing the OUA East regular season title with a 19-3 record.
