The Desjardins uOttawa Female Athlete of the week is Jenna Gilbert of the CIS Final Eight bronze medal winning women’s basketball team. The Ottawa native’s stellar play helped the Gee-Gees to their best ever finish at a national tournament. Gilbert was a clutch contributor in the quarter-final game against Saskatchewan, hitting an important three ball in overtime and finishing with 20 points.
However it was in the bronze medal game against Calgary that Gilbert’s presence on the court was most felt. She established the team’s offensive pace early on in their final game by putting up 8 points in the first quarter including two treys. She finished the final game with a total of 19 points including clutch free throw shooting at the end of the game that sealed the win for the Gee-Gees. She was also named to the tournament all-star team for her outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
