McMaster – Taylor Chiarot 20 points, 7 rebounds; Isabel Ormond 12 points, 4 rebounds
The Gee-Gees suffered their second loss in as many days in a heartbreaking 66-64 overtime loss at McMaster.
The Gee-Gees trailed just points behind the Marauders after the first and second quarter, though they tied things up in third frame and the score remained even at the end of regulation forcing extra time. In a low scoring overtime, the Gee-Gees put just one point on the board, missing several key lay-ups down the stretch, while the Marauders added three points to secure the win.
Fifth-year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto, Ont.) led the Gee-Gees in scoring for the second night in a row with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Second-year guard Laura-Émilie Cyr (Montréal, Qué.) also contributed 10 points.
“It’s a tough loss,” said head coach Andy Sparks, “A couple of people struggled and we didn’t make the shots when we needed too. We are much better than last night, so we’re going forward.”
“We know we’re in tough next weekend [hosting Windsor], that will be difficult for us,” said Sparks, “But we’ll just try to get better next week; and we’re coming home and we’re looking forward to coming home.”
The Gee-Gees will host Windsor in their home-opener on November 18, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Montpetit Hall.
