“It was certainly a good win,” according to Gee-Gees head coach Andy Sparks, as the Gee-Gees captured a close game against the Ryerson Rams on the road Saturday evening.

It was a very close game throughout, with the Rams leading by three points after the first quarter, and the Gee-Gees leading by one and two points after the second and third quarters, respectively.

The Gee-Gees played a strong second half and managed to keep things together despite the team’s leading scorer and No. 5 ranked CIS leading scorer Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto, Ont.) running into foul trouble.

Ryerson’s Jenny Hobbs finished the game with a striking 100% shooting percentage, making all of her attempted shots and scoring eight points for the Rams.

Gee-Gees’ fourth-year guard Melina Wishart (Ottawa, Ont.) was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points. Wishart, along with teammates Courtney Berquist (Ottawa, Ont.), Marie-Ève Caouette (Chicoutimi, Qué.), and Awo Farah (Ottawa, Ont.) were 100% at the foul line.

“It was a disappointing loss last night [against Toronto],” explained Sparks. “Tonight was much better and the girls played a good second half. We are definitely happy with our 8-5 record right now.”

The Gee-Gees are back at home next weekend hosting RMC (0-14 OUA) Friday, January 22, and Queen’s (9-5 OUA) Saturday, January 23 (Rogers). Game times are 6:00 p.m. (SSN Canada)
