The Gee-Gees have now lengthened their winning streak to four games, with a strong, key 71-57 win over Queen’s. The Gee-Gees are now tied with Toronto for second in the OUA East.
The Gee-Gees came out strong in the opening quarter to open up a quick 11 point lead and never looked back after that point, extending their lead to 14 points to close the game.
“Definitely a real solid start up [in the first quarter],” said head coach Andy Sparks, “The 14 point finish was as close as the game was. So it certainly was a positive result for us and we’re definitely continuing to improve.”
First-year guard Tatiana Hanlan, Gatineau, Qué., had another stunning performance for the Gee-Gees in tonight’s win, sinking 16 points and snagging 5 rebounds. Fourth-year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley, Toronto, Ont., made her own mark with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
“[Tatiana Hanlan] was definitely our player of the game today,” said Sparks, “She was very aggressively going to the basket did a very great job defensively as well. For her it was definitely a great game.”
“It was a good weekend for us,” concluded Sparks, “And we just got to keep on working hard.”
The Gee-Gees will take to home court next weekend as they host York (5-7 OUA) on January 21 at 6:00 p.m. and Laurentian (3-9 OUA) on January 22 at 6:00 p.m., both at Montpetit Hall. (SSN Canada)
