Women’s Basketball (5-4 OUA, 14-7 overall)
@ Lakehead (4-3, OUA) Saturday, November 27, 6:00 p.m.
1 2 Half 3 4 Game
Lakehead 18 12 30 15 13 58
uOttawa 3 18 21 18 13 52
Thunderwolves: Tasia McKenna 22 points,
Gee-Gees: Emilie Morasse (Quebec City, PQ.) 17 points, 4/4 from the free throw line. Hannah Sunley- Paisley (Toronto, Ontario) 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4/5 free throws.
Three points on the scoreboard in a quarter of basketball is never a good thing.
Just ask the Gee-Gees women’s basketball team who found out first-hand what a lack of offence can do to determine the outcome of a game.
uOttawa registered a paltry 3 points during the first quarter of Saturday night’s match against Lakehead in Thunder Bay.
Three points would have been okay if the Thunderwolves picked up one or two instead of eighteen in the opening quarter of play.
After their dismal start the Gee-Gees spent the rest of the evening playing catch up with Lakehead.
To their credit they chipped away at the Thunderwolves lead outscoring the Northern Ontario university in two of the next three quarters but the damage been done in the early going.
With the loss, the Gee-Gees modest three game winning streak is history.
But they do finish the first half of the season one game over the .500 mark (5-4) which was one of Andy Sparks (Gee-Gees head coach) main goals this semester.
Saturday night’s contest represents uOttawa’s last regular season game of the first semester.
uOttawa will resume OUA play on Friday January 8, 2010 against York at Montpetit Hall. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
