After entering the Ontario league (OUA) in 1968, the Gee-Gees had to face new opponents including the Laurentian Voyageurs from Sudbury. For over a decade of that match-up, the Gee-Gees record in Sudbury was dismal: 0-15. Then Head Coach John Restivo, craving for a victory over the Voyageurs, decided to change things up in 1984. The team traded its tradition for a bus ride a day earlier, in order to arrive refreshed and well rested. Restivo’s initiative paid off as the garnet and grey scored their first-ever triumph over the Voyageurs on their home court. Rob Taylor and Rohan McLean each contributed with 20 points to help their team to a 84-69 victory, despite trailing 36-32 at the half. Taylor finished the season with a third OUA East second team All-Star nod to complete his career with the Gee-Gees.
