In search of a more consistent, defensive-minded game, the Gee-Gees head on the road for the first time this regular season.
On Friday, the Gee-Gees visit the 1-0 Laurentian Voyageurs who ended last season on a seven-game losing streak finishing with a 4-18 record. The Voyageurs defeated Algoma 69-34 in their season-opener.
Laurentian went 4-5 in preseason play, beating Durham College, Acadia, St. FX, and Toronto. They lost their tuneup games against St. Mary’s, Concordia, Laurier, Ryerson, and Brock. The Gee-Gees have not lost to Laurentian since January 2011.
Coming out of the first weekend of the 2014-15 season, the Gee-Gees sport a 1-1 record after a four-point defeat to McMaster and an eight-point victory over Brock.
On Saturday, the Gee-Gees will be in North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers who are in their first year as a program at any level.
The Lakers have yet to play this season. They’ll welcome Carleton Friday ahead of their matchup with the Gee-Gees. Nipissing lost all three scheduled preseason games handily to AUS opponents Acadia, UPEI, and UNB at the Don Grant Classic.
The goal for the Gee-Gees is to improve upon a first weekend not short on pros and cons. Ottawa shot the ball well, especially on Saturday, but only got to the foul line eight times - by far the fewest of any OUA team that has played two games.
Both games will be broadcast on OUA.tv and will tip off at 6 p.m.
