It’s Ottawa Race Weekend and the temperatures are starting to soar. The summer heat seems to be coming to the city earlier than normal so we’re sharing this article on how you as a runner can keep cool and healthy during these hot days.
Prepare - Eat right, get mentally prepared, and strategize your hydration plan so you know what to expect (know the weather forecast for each hour of the day of your race).
Electrolytes – Drink or take electrolyte supplements to ensure your energy levels are where they need to be.
Pre Cooling – 10-20 minutes before you start your race drink iced water and sports drinks
Watch your pace, not your watch – Don’t over exert yourself, and you should not be afraid or ashamed to stop, rest or withdraw if you need to.
Most importantly, listen to your body, don’t push yourself too hard, enjoy yourself, you’re running through the nation’s capital, with thousands of others in an experience like no other.
