Although 2017 is rapidly coming to an end, the school year has just begun. In order to start it off on the right foot, staying healthy is of great importance. But how does the university accommodate that need?
When it comes to fitness, uOttawa’s Sports Services offer two training facilities for students as well as employees and community members.
First, there is the Montpetit Fitness Center located on the bottom floor of Montpetit Hall. Within its 3,000 square feet of fitness space, you’ll find 24 cardiovascular machines, 16 selectorized weight machines, three brand new squat racks and dumbbells ranging from five to 100 pounds. Hours of operation are from 7:30 to 23:00 on weekdays and from 9:30 to 20:30 on weekends. The Fitness Centre also offers an “Employee Only” hour from 12:00 to 13:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday as well as a “Women Only” hour from 7:30-8:30 on Tuesday and Friday.
If want to exercise during these hours, the Health and Lifestyle Centre, located in the Minto Sports Complex, is available. It opens its doors as early as 6:30 and operates until 23:00 on weekdays. On weekends, its hours of operation are from 8:00 to 20:00. The Health and Lifestyle Centre’s 8,000 square feet of fitness space contains 40 cardiovascular machines, 26 selectorized weight machines and dumbbells ranging from five to 125 pounds. In addition to that, it includes two International-size squash courts which are available to members upon reservation. Within the Center, you can also find a multi-sports room where group fitness classes such as Yoga, Zumba and Tae Cardio, are offered to members, at no additional cost! If there is no class in session, members can use the multi-sports room as a personal exercise area.
Now that you’re in the know, don’t forget to stay hydrated, pace yourself and recover properly. Have a great workout!
