Did you know that Ottawa has one of the largest multi-use pathway networks in North America? Whether you prefer to run, walk, or cycle, these paths can take you anywhere within the city.

The Capital Pathway is the largest path network in Ottawa, spanning the entire length of the city. The paved network has two primary corridors – One along the Ottawa River in the east-west direction, and another that follows the Rideau Canal heading south.

Points of interest along the Ottawa River corridor include the Rideau Locks in the heart of downtown. You can continue east along Sussex Drive to visit the Prime Minister’s residence before continuing on through Rockcliffe Park, a popular wedding venue with a spectacular view of Gatineau. Find the end of the route at Petrie Island in Orleans and take a well-deserved break on the beach. This is a 20-kilometre trip, so don’t forget to pack your water!

If you’d prefer to stay closer to the city centre, check out the Rideau Canal pathway. This pathway flanks the canal on both sides, beginning at Parliament Hill and ending at Mooney’s Bay. On your way down to Mooney’s Bay, take a stroll or cruise through Lansdowne Park to experience Ottawa’s main entertainment district. If you’re in the mood for some more physical activity, you’ll find Dow’s Lake just past Lansdowne Park where you can rent kayaks or paddleboats to take out onto the lake!

A lesser-known trail for the nature enthusiasts is the Conroy Pit Loop. Located in the south end of the city, this wooded trail offers an unmatched variety of natural scenery while taking you through a number of local parks. The loop also provides connections to the rest of Ottawa’s Greenbelt which offers countless wooded trails for those looking to connect with nature.

These are just a few of our favourite paths in Ottawa but there are plenty more to discover, check out the full interactive map here.
