A Good Ole’ Cup of Joe

Written by Griffin Peltier

What’s your favourite drink before a workout?

Is coffee on your list of must-drinks before a workout?

If not, it should be.

A recent study by the University of Illinois shows that ingesting a bit of caffeine before you hit the gym reduces muscular pain post-workout. And less pain is always a plus when it comes to post-workout!

The added benefit to a good ole’ cup of Joe before a workout is that you can complete more reps at a higher resistance during your weight training sessions, as well as run faster and longer during your cardio workouts.

The key to experiencing this benefit from caffeine is to drink your coffee black. No added sugar, creams, or anything of the like. Why add more calories to burn off right before your workout?

So next time you’re ready to hit the gym, stop by the Dining Hall, Café Alt, Tim Hortons, or Starbucks on campus and enjoy your drink.
