Do you know all the benefits of being active?

Being physically active also does not mean you need to be hitting the gym, doing weights or running the track. There are so many different ways to stay active as we have been highlighting all month as part of Physical Activity Month (check out our Tweets for tips and tricks). If you keep up with an active physical lifestyle, here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Physical activity increases your chances of living longer
  • It can control your blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight
  • It helps to lower your “bad” cholesterol and raise your “good” cholesterol
  • It can help to prevent heart disease, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and type 2 diabetes

And that’s not all. Being more active can:

  • Be fun
  • Improve your sleep patterns
  • Make your bones, muscles, and joints stronger
  • Lower your chances of becoming depressed
  • Help you feel better about yourself
  • Help you connect with likeminded people and make new friends

Physical activity is good for people of all ages and body types. Even if you feel out-of-shape or you haven’t been active in a long time, you can find activities that will work for you.
