Campus rec COVID-19 updates and information

Accessing sports facilities

Students

We are excited to be re-opening many of our facilities to students as of November 16, 2020. We have updated a number of our procedures in order to ensure the safety of all visitors. Please be sure to read these procedures before visiting our facilities.

We have also converted one of our gymnasiums into a cardio workout space. As of November 23 at 9 p.m. you can now sign up to use indoor cycling bikes, ellipticals, stationary bikes and more in the Montpetit gym!

What is open:

Employees

The pool will now be open to both students and employees, while other sports facilities such as fitness centres and gyms will continue to be available only to students until further notice. This is due to the fact that sports facility capacity still remains reduced to ensure that physical distancing and other safety measures are maintained.  We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to welcoming employees back to all of our facilities soon.

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend, please cancel your workout by calling client services at 613-562-5800 x 5789 (Minto Sports Complex) or 613-562-5800 x 4327 (Montpetit Hall). Cancellations must be completed 24hrs in advance to avoid a strike. We work on a 3-strike system to encourage a sense of accountability for shared usage of the programming.

No Show Policy

Students who book a workout session are able to check in as soon as 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the session.  If you are unable to attend, please cancel your workout session. If you do not attend or cancel your booked session, you may incur a strike on your account. Three strikes will result in a suspended membership.

The Strike System

Strike one – no show, no communication. Clients will receive an email to remind them of the no-show policy for workout sessions and consequences to follow.

Strike two – no show, no communication. Clients will receive an email to remind them of the no-show policy for workout sessions and consequences to follow should a 3rd no show occur.

Strike three – no show, no communication. Clients will receive an email to remind them of the no-show policy for workout sessions and their sport facility membership will be suspended for 10 days.  This means the user would not be permitted to access any uOttawa sport facility. This may include but is not limited to: MNT Hall, Minto Sports Complex and Matt Anthony field and Gee-Gees field / Lees Dome.

If a client obtains three strikes and a suspension, they must meet with a Campus Rec Supervisor prior to reinstatement and once the penalty period has passed. Once reinstated, if they miss another session, they will be reintegrated into the strike system a second time, with the third strike resulting in 2 times the penalty period, amounting to a 20 day suspension.

Cancellation guidelines

We know that emergencies happen, if you are unable to attend a workout session that is set to begin in less than 24 hours, please give us a call so we can cancel your session without penalty.

Updating contact information

In order to communicate with you for Client Services purpose, we require your up to date information. Please take a few minutes to update your file with your correct phone number, email and address.

Waitlist

The waitlist is managed daily by Client Services. Once a workout session becomes available due to a cancellation, the students on the waitlist are contacted to book the available session. It is important to update your contact information in GeeGeeReg for this reason.

Should you be contacted by Client Services to attend a workout session, please ensure you have a confirmation email to show at the check-in point.
