2010 INDUCTEES

Warren Sutton - Builder

The first head coach of the Gee-Gees women's basketball program, Warren Sutton made an immediate impact and surprised many, as he led a fresh, undistinguished team to the 1970-71 OUA playoffs in their first year of existence. Sutton went on to coach the women's basketball team for a total of three years (1970-72, 1973-74), taking a break in 1971-72 to help assist the men's basketball team.

Coleen Dufresne - Player

A 1975 All-Canadian, Dufresne had an outstanding five-year career with the Gee-Gees (1971-1975). She was the OUA leading scorer for three consecutive years (1971-72, 1972-73 and 1974-75) and remains eighth in the OUA record book for greatest average points per game in a career, having scored 559 points in 30 games for an average of 18.6. She is also a former member of Canada's women's basketball team and participated at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal (1976).

In addition, Dufresne is a three-time CIS Coach of the Year award winner (1982-83, 1987-88, 1997-98). She served as head coach for the University of New Brunswick from 1980 to 1984 and went on to spend 18 years at the helm of the University of Manitoba Bisons (1984-2001).

2009 INDUCTEES

Fabienne Blizzard

Fabienne Blizzard was a guard for the Gee-Gees from 1989-1993. She then went on to help coach the team from 1994-1996. She was well respected by alumni, teammates and the players she coached.

Wanda Pilon

Wanda Pilon played guard for the Gee-Gees from 1974-78. She was an assistant coach for the 1980-81 and the 1983-84 seasons and became head coach of the women’s basketball program in 1986. She remained head coach for 11 years, from 1986 to 1997, after which she became assistant athletic director and worked in the alumni office until 2004.

2003-04 women’s basketball team

The 2003-04 team, lead by head coach Angie McLeod and assistant coaches Carol Rosenthal and Patrice Bellerose, is the only team in the program’s history to have ever claimed an OUA championship. They also finished sixth at the CIS championships that year.

2004-05 women’s basketball team

The 2004-05 team, lead by head coach Carlos Brown and assistant coach Murray Shoup, finished second in the OUA, and improved to a fifth place finish in the CIS finals.
