CELEBRATING 120 YEARS OF GEE-GEES HOCKEY
 |
In 2009, the University of Ottawa celebrates 120 years of hockey tradition. Since the University’s first team played in the 1889-1890 season, a rich tradition has developed and many memories have been forged.
Over the coming year, our goal is to raise $120,000 for the men’s hockey program. The funds will allow future generations of Gee-Gees to forge many of the same memories that make us all proud to be a part of the garnet and grey by providing much needed enhancements to the men’s hockey program and overall team and student athletic development.

Since the start of the 2009-2010 season, Sports Services hosted a series of activities and events that welcomed a decade or period of the program’s history:
A final celebration will take place in the coming months to reunite all of our alumni. Keep checking this web page for more details.

Interesting facts:
-
The uOttawa men’s hockey program has survived through two World Wars, the Great Depression and economic and social turmoil.
-
The first game played against the Ottawa Seven second squad was attended by Lord Stanley himself and had to be moved from its outdoor venue in front of Tabaret Hall to the covered Rideau Rink due to ice conditions.
-
It wasn’t until 1910 with the admission of the uOttawa hockey team into the ICHU (Intercollegiate Hockey Union), did the team play its first interuniversity game against Laval University.
This milestone anniversary provides us with the perfect opportunity to give back to the program that has given so much to us.
