@ McGill Team Invitational, hosted by McGill University, January 27 to 28
After a first-overall finish at the St. Lawrence Classic in Canton, NY, the Gee-Gees women’s track and field team moved into seventh place in the CIS Top 10, up one spot, while the men’s team held steady in third spot. This weekend, the Gee-Gees will travel to Montreal to compete in one of the most important CIS meets of the season, the McGill Team Invitational.
Athletes to watch out for at McGill University, include second-year Moussa Sissoko (Paris, France), who is currently the top-ranked runner in the CIS in the men’s 60m sprint. He ran the men’s 60m event at St. Lawrence University in a blistering 6.82s. Sissoko needs to improve his time by just 0.03s to qualify for the CIS championships. Another male athlete on the verge of qualifying for the CIS finals is fourth-year Mark Chenery (Victoria, BC) in the 60m hurdles event. Though teammate Sekou Kaba (Conakry, Guinea) has been superb so far this season in the same event, Chenery is quietly putting up a solid season as well and needs to shorten his time by just 0.08s to meet the CIS standards.
On the women’s side, veteran Julia Tousaw (Goderich, Ont.) is just 0.03s away from qualifying for the CIS championships in the 1000m event. Tousaw earned two gold medals in the same competition last season, and is hoping to replicate her success this weekend at McGill University. Fifth-year Jennifer Perrault (Burlington, Ont.) could also qualify for nationals in the same event, as she is the second-ranked runner in the OUA, in the women’s 1000m run.
Results from the McGill Team Challenge will be posted here: http://www.mcgill.ca/athletics/newsroom/events/item/?item_id=175612
The competition is set to start at 2 p.m. on Friday, and will resume on Saturday at 9:15 a.m.
