Gee-Gees relay teams shine at New Balance Collegiate Invitational

The Gee-Gees track and field team wrapped up their stay in New York City on February 4, after a second day of competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. uOttawa’s relay teams highlighted Day 2, holding their own against tough NCAA and CIS opponents. The women’s 4x400m relay team finished eighth in the college division with a time of 3:48.58, which should be good enough to qualify them into the CIS championships, held at the University of Manitoba next month.

Other top relay results included a third-place finish by the 4x200m men’s team, who had an impressive time of 1:27.08. The men’s 4x400m relay team finished third as well, in the college division, with a time of 3:16.39. In the individual events, fourth-year Michael Robertson (Williamstown, Ont.) finished seventh in the 500m event with a time of 1:03.28, while fourth-year Mark Chenery (Victoria, BC) finished fourth in the men’s 60m hurdles, college division. Chenery finished in a time of 8.31 seconds.

The Gee-Gees will now return home to host the uOttawa Winter National Capital Invitational on February 11.
