OTTAWA (CIS) – The 10th annual East West Bowl, presented by Under Armour, will be televised live on Rogers Cable 22 in Ottawa and webcast by SSN Canada.
The prospects game, which showcases CIS football players who will be eligible for the 2013 CFL Canadian draft, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the campus of Western University in London, Ont. on Saturday May 12. Three University of Ottawa players will participate this year, represent the East. Simon Le Marquand, Brendan Gillanders, and Tyler Servais have been participating in practices and combines throughout the week and will be featured in Saturday’s match.
“We are thrilled that CIS football fans will be able to watch the East West Bowl on Rogers TV and SSN Canada,” said Marg McGregor, chief executive officer of CIS. “Over the past decade, the East West Bowl has become a major event for CIS football players and there is no doubt Rogers and SSN’s involvement will help promote the game and profile our talented student-athletes.”
A total of 88 players are set to take the field on Saturday.
The East team is comprised of student-athletes representing schools from the Atlantic and Quebec conferences, as well as from Queen’s, Ottawa and Toronto. The West contingent is made up of players from Canada West and from the remaining OUA universities.
Stefan Ptaszek, head coach of the reigning Vanier Cup champion McMaster Marauders, will lead the West squad, while Glen Constantin, who has guided the Laval Rouge et Or to five national championships in 11 seasons at the helm, will be in charge of the East.
After losing the first five match-ups from 2003 to 2007, the East has won three of the last four contests, including the last two. The East prevailed 34-27 in overtime a year ago, also at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
Players and coaches have been in London since Monday. In addition to the game, the week-long event includes daily practices, coaches clinics and combines. A banquet is schedule for Friday evening.
