Ways to Support the Gee-Gees
The University of Ottawa has a tradition of University Sport dating back to 1881 when our football team beat Harvard. In 1885 the athletic association was formed and garnet and grey became our team colors. Shortly thereafter garnet and grey was adopted by the University.
Today, close to 620 students participate in varsity and competitive sports despite having demanding course loads and being engaged in an intense pursuit of academic excellence. More than 3,900 students participate in the Sports Services intramural, educational and fitness programs.
In 2001 the Sports Complex at 801 King Edward was completed. As a result students, Gee-Gee teams and the community have access to two ice pads, the Matt Anthony Field, the health and lifestyle facility, classrooms and meeting rooms. This facility in conjunction with Montpetit Hall illustrate the commitment made by the University to the varsity, competitive sports teams and importantly to the health and wellness of the students and community.
Giving at Every Level Counts
To continue building upon the traditions of excellence and our current success the uOttawa varsity teams continue to count on the generous financial support of its loyal alumni, friends and parents.
All donations, to the uOttawa Gee-Gees, no matter the size, are meaningful and cumulative.
These gifts help to enhance the operations of the Gee-Gee teams; improve facilities, establish bursaries. Most importantly your gifts ensure our student-athletes can pursue academic and athletic excellence.
If desired, your gift may be directed towards a varsity team or club, bursary or one of many other giving opportunities. Larger donations may be "pledged" to the team or club or program of your choice and paid over a fixed term.
Donors, with their permission, may receive special recognition in our publications, on our website, and, on occasion, in the media and at our uOttawa Gee-Gees events. Gifts of $20.00 or more will receive a tax receipt.
Matching Programs
The uOttawa Sport Service provides two different matching incentive grants for varsity sports as well the Ontario Government has a matching program for bursaries and scholarships.
The uOttawa Sports services has created two matching incentive programs totaling $170,000 for our programs –The Annual Fund Matching Program and The Alumni and Friends Opportunity Fund.
The Annual Fund matching program contributes $.50 for every dollar raised through our annual fund program up to $100,000.
The $70,000 Alumni and Friends Development Fund supports new varsity projects undertaken by the respective programs. The fund provides between 75% and 85% of the funding for projects in revenue generation, leadership or coaches priorities. In effect , $1 donated becomes $5.00.
Finally the Ontario government through the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Funds (OSOTF) matches dollar for dollar gifts designated for scholarships and bursaries for Ontario students. Currently Gee-Gees student-athletes can access up to 40 bursaries created by alumni and friends.
To find out if your gift is eligible for matching, please call Kimberly Duthie, Sports Services Alumni Relations and Development Officer at 613-562-5800 x 3657.
Your generous and ongoing support will be greatly appreciated and help to ensure that the quality of our uOttawa’s sports is sustained and ultimately enhanced.
