uOttawa goal scorers: Ireland (White, Voyer) 16:59 2nd period
The Gee-Gees men’s hockey team lost in regulation time for the first time in their last eleven regular season games, coming up short by a score of 3-1 against the number-two ranked team in the country at McGill.
The game was knotted at 0-0 after the first period which was fairly evenly played with the shots at 13-9 in favour of McGill. Ottawa drew two penalties late in the first period, giving McGill a 5-on-3 which was almost successfully killed off before the first goal of the game was scored forty-six seconds into the second period.
Despite that goal, Ottawa continues to show strength in killing penalties. They were able to kill seven of the eight McGill power plays. “Our penalty kill gave us a chance tonight, but we took a lot of the penalties because we weren’t moving our feet against their speed,” said head coach Réal Paiement. “It was one of those nights; the puck was bouncing and we couldn’t get anything going. But I’m proud of the way the guys battled through it – it wasn’t going our way but we made a game of it against the number two team in the country.”
Kyle Ireland scored at 16:59 in the second period for Ottawa, his third of the season. Longpre-Poirier, Vossen, and Picard-Hooper were the goal scorers for McGill. Ottawa will now return home to host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
