The Golden Hawks may have opened up the scoring in this Saturday night match, but the Gee-Gees finished it, pummelling the Laurier net with 41 shots and winning 3-1 for their second victory of the weekend road trip.
Second-year forward Luc Olivier Blain (Longueuil, Qué.) propelled the Gee-Gees to victory with two powerplay goals, completing a four point weekend with his two assists from Friday’s win over Guelph. First-year forward Stephen Blunden (Ottawa, Ont.) scored uOttawa’s first goal to initially tie up the game.
Fourth-year goaltender Aaron Barton (Carlisle, Ont.) made 20 saves in the win.
“Tonight was probably our best game we’ve played,” said head coach Réal Paiement, “We got to a slow start, but the second period we really played well on both ends.”
“Definitely we were better today then we were last weekend,” said Paiement on the players coming together as a team. “It’s a new coach coming in with new ways and new philosophies so it takes a while for the guys to get together and execute. But today we were better and we’re looking at being better next weekend.”
The Gee-Gees will host their home opener on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Lakehead (0-2-0 OUA) at the uOttawa Sports Complex.
