Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced Wednesday the rosters for the 14th annual East-West Bowl, which will take place at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m., live on CIS-SIC.tv. Two Gee-Gees will suit up for the East squad, which has won the exhibition game each of the past two seasons.
For the second straight year, McGill University will host the week-long event featuring – for the most part - CIS players heading into their Canadian Football League draft year.
Lewis Ward was selected as the kicker for the East team after a third consecutive strong season for uOttawa. In 2015 after focussing on improving his range, he notched a career high 48-yard field goal. In 2014 he was ranked fifth in the CIS in points scored and fourth in field goal percentage thanks to an 18-21 season. Originally from England, Ward was a high school standout at Bayridge Secondary in Kingston, Ont., before joining the Gee-Gees.
Ty Cranston has been a steady presence in the Gee-Gees backfield, totalling 75 tackles in 22 games over the past three regular seasons. The Winnipeg, Man., product also has two interceptions and eight pass breakups to his name. Standing at 6-foot-3, Cranston has primarily been used at safety and started the first five games of the 2015 season before missing two due to injury.
In addition to the prospects game, the 2016 edition, which kicks off on Tuesday, May 10, includes three days of practices, a combine for participating players, a CFL free-agent camp, and more. A detailed schedule is available on the official website.
