The uOttawa athletes of the week for September 26 are Sam Randazzo from men’s football (4-0) and Katherine Bearne from women’s soccer (9-0-0). Their performances this weekend helped continue uOttawa’s undefeated start to the season – the combined record of the three fall varsity teams in regular season action is now 17-0-0.
Randazzo leads the Gee-Gees with 4.5 sacks this season and he added two of those in Saturday’s win against Windsor. Randazzo, a fifth-year Gee-Gee originally from Hamilton, Ont., also forced a fumble which he recovered, and assisted on three other tackles. Randazzo’s sacks were impressive, totalling 19 yards lost by the Lancers. A theatre student at uOttawa, Randazzo is ranked fourth in the country for sacks this season.
Bearne has made a big impact for uOttawa after recovering from an injury which caused her to sit out the entire 2015 season. Now in her second year of play, the midfielder from Halifax collected a goal and two assists in Ottawa’s two wins this weekend. Bearne’s passing has been particularly effective on set plays for uOttawa, and the Physics and Mathematics student now has four assists and two goals this season.
