The Gee-Gees football team had three of its first-year linemen named to the OUA All-Rookie Team on Tuesday. This marks the first time that uOttawa has had a trio of all-rookies since the OUA began naming an All-Rookie Team in 2013. Patrick Spelman and Piri Sinnathurai were recognized for their work on the offensive line, while Tramayne Clarke-Stephen represents the garnet and grey defensive line.
Spelman, who hails from Burlington, Ont., dressed in all nine games this season at right guard, making two starts. The 6-foot-2, 290 pound Nelson High School grad is studying political sciences at uOttawa.
Sinnathurai started three games and dressed for every game at left tackle. Sinnathurai, 6-foot-3 and 265 pounds, is from Montreal and attended John Abbott College before coming to uOttawa to study psychology.
Clarke-Stephen totalled 11.5 tackles in his first-year campaign at defensive tackle. Dressing in all games this year, the Toronto product is an alum of the Metro Toronto Wildcats and Northern Secondary School. He picked up one tackle for loss and one pass breakup and is part of the exciting core of returning defensive players for 2017.
