American hoops transfer powers Gee-Gee to holiday win

Fourth-year American transfer guard Josh Wright scored a team-high 20 points in his first Canadian university men's basketball game Sunday afternoon in the Gee-Gees 82-67 win over Saskatchewan to open the 42nd annual Wesmen Classic holiday tournament at Winnipeg.


Wright, a six-foot-two native of Utica, NY who played three seasons at NCAA Division-I Syracuse, also finished with four assists and three rebounds over 21 minutes.


The Gee-Gees overcame a 37-30 halftime deficit to move into Monday's semifinal (9:00 p.m. ET) at the eight-team tournament against either Calgary or Minot State.

Fourth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe added 19 points with eight rebounds over a team-high 35 minutes for uOttawa.
