The Desjardins uOttawa female athlete of the week is fourth year setter Christina Grail. Grail led the women's volleyball team to their seventh straight victory on Sunday, taking a 3-1 decision over Western. Grail set up 38 kills for the Gee-Gee attackers, a number which keeps her at the top of the CIS statistics for assists per set. Grail was also scoring points for the Gee-Gees from the service line, landing five aces over the course of the match. Grail is currently second in the OUA in service aces per set, behind team mate Kelsie English as the no. four ranked Gee-Gees continue to lead the CIS in team service aces per set.
The Desjardins uOttawa male athlete of the week is fifth year forward Warren Ward. Ward helped the Gee-Gees win both games of basketball's home opening weekend. In front of a huge crowd on Friday night, Ward played a complete game scoring 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, lifting Ottawa to a 84-62 win over McMaster. He added ten points and three steals in Saturday's lopsided win over Brock and is now averaging 14.5 points per game. The Gee-Gees are at home again this coming weekend, taking on Guelph on Friday night and Lakehead on Saturday.
