The Desjardins uOttawa female athlete of the week is Kelsie English of the women’s volleyball team. English was a team leader in points in all three of Ottawa’s matches at the CIS national championship tournament this weekend, helping the Gee-Gees to a fourth place finish. In Thursday’s quarterfinal win over Sherbrooke, English led the team in blocks, digs, and service aces. In the national semifinal the third-year right side hitter led the team in total points with 17.5, posting 12 kills and 25 digs. In the final match of the season, the Orleans native also led the team in points, kills, and service aces.
The Desjardins uOttawa male athlete of the week is Warren Ward of the men’s basketball team. Ward played two of his best games of the season this weekend at the OUA Final Four, leading the team in scoring and rebounding both nights. In Friday’s win over the Windsor Lancers, Ward ensured Ottawa a place at the CIS Final Eight by posting 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists while controlling the floor as a fifth-year veteran. He followed up that dominant performance with a double-double in the Wilson Cup final, scoring 27 points, including perfect eight-for eight shooting from the foul line, and 10 rebounds. Earlier in the week Warren was named an OUA first team all-star for the second time in his career.
