Johnny Berhanemeskel of the men's basketball team is the Desjardins uOttawa Male Athlete of the Week. The second year guard matched his career high by scoring 31 points on Saturday night in an 87-58 Gee-Gees win over Queen's. It was the second time this season and the third time in his career that Berhanemeskel tallied 31 points, but on Saturday he did it by having an almost perfect shooting night. He made 11 of 12 from the floor in addition to 5 for 5 in free throws, putting on a show for the fans at Montpetit Hall. Berhanemeskel also scored 13 points in Friday's win over RMC. He is now averaging 16.6 points per game, good for eighth in the OUA.
The Desjardins uOttawa Female Athlete of the week is Érika Pouliot of the women's hockey team. The fifth year captain scored the game winning goal and also had two assists in the Gee-Gees' 4-2 victory over the Concordia Stingers at home on Saturday. It was the second straight win for the women's hockey team which has now moved into fourth place in the RSEQ. Pouliot's points were her first since returning to the lineup after suffering a neck injury early in the season.
