The final uOttawa athletes of the week for 2016 hail from the Gee-Gees basketball teams which had success on home opening weekend at Montpetit Hall.
Caleb Agada helped lead the men’s basketball team to a pair of victories over Top Ten opponents. Against the No. 7 ranked Marauders, Agada, a fifth-year economics student-athlete had 17 points (7-of-11 shooting) to go along with six rebounds, four assists and a steal as uOttawa defeated McMaster 79-59. The Burlington, Ont. product wasn’t done there as on Saturday night against the No. 5 ranked Brock Badgers, the 6-foot-4 guard had a game-high 28 points, six rebounds, five assists, five steals and a block in 36 minutes of action. The 28 points marks a career high for Agada, who now averages 17.4 points per game.
Amélie Hachey keyed a huge Gee-Gees comeback effort against Brock on Saturday night. The rookie from Drummondville, Que., came off the bench and put on a shooting clinic, sinking her first four field goal attempts. The accounting student finished the game with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead the team to a 79-64 win. The team was trailing by 14 points before Hachey checked into the game for the first time.
