This week’s uOttawa Athletes of the week represent the first place women’s hockey team and the no. 5 nationally ranked men’s basketball team.
Roxanne Rioux scored the game-winning goal for uOttawa in a shootout against the Carleton Ravens and also provided a goal in regulation time as the Gee-Gees. It was the second straight two-goal game for the second-year forward from Saint-Jean-de-Dieu, Qué. The criminology student now ranks second in the RSEQ scoring charts with six goals and four assists this season. Rioux tallied 11 goals in her rookie campaign last season.
Jean Emmanuel Pierre-Charles made his presence felt in his regular season debut with the Gee-Gees. The six-foot-eight forward propelled Ottawa to a 91-59 win in the regular season opener, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Pierre-Charles, who is studying economics, shot 7-11 from the floor and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. The performance marks a regular season career high in points for the former Carleton Raven, matches his regular season rebounding career high, and is his first regular season double-double.
