Top Ten Update: Volleyball moves to no. 6

Tuesday January 14, 2014

Four Gee-Gees teams are featured in the CIS Top Ten this week, led by the no. 2 ranked men’s basketball team which maintained its position for the sixth straight edition of the rankings.

The women’s volleyball team moved up one spot to no. 6 this week, marking a new high for the season. Ottawa is now the top-ranked OUA squad in the nation thanks to a 3-1 win over the Brock Badgers on Saturday in combination with a Ryerson win over the previously no. 6 ranked York Lions. The Gee-Gees leapfrog the Lions in the OUA East standings, now sitting alone in first place at 12-1, as well as the Top Ten as the Lions fall into a tie for no. 8.

The biggest upward swing this week came for the women’s basketball team, which moved from no. 10 to no. 8 after a perfect weekend on the road. The 8-3 Gee-Gees were just three votes out of seventh spot and are the top-ranked OUA East team. The squad hosts two home games this weekend against Toronto and Ryerson before facing off with the Carleton Ravens on Tuesday, January 21 at the MBNA Capital Hoops Classic at Canadian Tire Centre.

The women’s swim team remains in no. 9 this week, heading into a weekend of competition at the Ontario Cup in Toronto.
