The Gee-Gees men’s basketball team (4-0 regular season, 12-1 overall) retains the no. 1 ranking in this week’s CIS Top Ten. While the women’s basketball (4-0) and women’s hockey (5-3) teams are both in first place and also making a push for the rankings, they have yet to crack the Top Ten.
The men’s basketball team earned two hard-nosed victories this past weekend on a difficult road trip to Thunder Bay and Guelph. Although Ottawa’s offensive production slowed down slightly, its defence shone through and the Gee-Gees are 3rd in the nation in terms of the fewest points per game scored against. Rebounding, blocking, and steals have been strengths this season, while the team’s field goal percentage of 48.7 ranks fourth in the country. Ottawa has four players averaging over 10 points per game and the team is knocking down an average of 11.3 three-pointers per game.
The Gee-Gees host the Algoma Thunderbirds (0-4) this Saturday at 8 p.m., at Montpetit Hall.
