The men’s basketball team holds down the no. 1 position in the CIS Top Ten for the fourth straight week heading into this Friday’s MBNA Capital Hoops Classic at Canadian Tire Centre. There, the 14-0 Gee-Gees will face the no. 2 ranked Carleton Ravens (12-2) at 8 p.m. This marks the second year in a row that the event will feature the nation’s no. 1 and no. 2 ranked squads, although the positions were reversed a year ago. Ottawa will be seeking its first Capital Hoops victory since 2007 on the men’s side, while the women of garnet and grey will defend their 2014 win. Tickets are available at CapitalTickets.ca
Also in Ottawa this weekend, the province’s best swimming athletes will take to the pool at Montpetit Hall for the OUA Championships. The meet will feature a total of seven Top Ten teams across both the men’s and women’s fields, with the Gee-Gees entering the weekend ranked no. 7 on the men’s side and no. 9 for the women. In both cases, Ottawa is one of the highest ranked OUA teams and the veteran team should take home some hardware.
The women’s volleyball team dispatched Queen’s and RMC this weekend but fell one position to no. 7 in the rankings this week. The team is on a six game winning streak and will close out the regular season on the road this weekend. Ottawa (14-3) travels to Toronto to meet the no. 1 ranked Varsity Blues (17-0) and the Ryerson Rams (13-4).
