HEADLINE: Soldiers pushed subs
Fourth-year transfer guard Josh Wright scored 15 points as No. 3 Gee-Gees men’s basketball had its bench pushed by winless RMC but still recorded an 84-54 win Friday night.
With fourth-year guard and leading scorer Josh Gibson-Bascombe sitting as a healthy scratch, the Gee-Gees used its subs early and often to improve to 18-2 in the OUA East.
“Trying to prove to coach we can play the game, too,” said third-year Gee-Gees forward Marvin Bazile, who scored four points in 15 minutes.
All 12 Gee-Gees played at least six minutes.
“We had a few mental lapses and could have done a better job,” said Bazile. “But it is what it is.”
uOttawa even looked festive, sporting pink socks in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Paladins fell to 0-20 but out-scored uOttawa 26-19 in the second quarter - thanks in part to 13 points from second-year forward Matthew Wookey - for a 43-36 Gee-Gees lead at the half.
