Up by five points with just over a minute left in the game, the uOttawa Gee-Gees were unable to close out the game over Western, as the Mustangs forced the game into overtime. The Mustangs then went on to outscore the Gee-Gees 14-9 in OT to clinch a 76-71 win over the garnet and grey.

“It’s a very tough loss,” said Gee-Gees head coach James Derouin. “It’s definitely a game that we could have and should have won.”

“They played a zone defence almost the entire game and it threw us off our rhythm,” explained Derouin.

Third-year guard Warren Ward, London, Ont., was back in the mix tonight for the Gee-Gees and led the team in scoring with 20 points, 6 rebounds. Fifth-year forward Louis Gauthier, Ottawa, Ont., also had a solid performance with 15 points, 7 rebounds, although coach Derouin notes the team “did not get him enough touches.”

Nonetheless, Derouin says that the Gee-Gees had a good week of practice in preparation for this weekend and they will continue to work hard in the upcoming week before hosting a pair of games next weekend: “We will definitely work on our zone offence. There are still some positives that came out of this weekend, but there is definitely a lot to learn.”

The Gee-Gees will host their second weekend at home, taking on Lakehead (5-1 OUA) on Friday, November 26, and McMaster (3-3 OUA) on Saturday, November 27. Game times are 8:00 p.m.
